Chennault International Airport has earned "LED certified" status from the Louisiana Department of Economic Development, becoming one of two properties in Calcasieu to do so.
Certification is designed to make Louisiana more competitive for economic development by building an inventory of "shovel ready" properties.
LED certifies a site after doing a review with an independent, third-party engineering firm, Ware said. Zoning restrictions, title work, environmental studies, soil analysis and surveys are also assessed for compliance and authenticity, he said.
Ware said the program gives the state, site selection consultants and business prospects "predictability and a welcome comfort zone in carrying a development project forward to a site selection decision and a project completion."

"I know they are proud of this airport, and we want everyone to know that we are honored and take it serious to build upon the resources already in place here at Chennault."
